I_{hollow\ cylinder}=MR^2

  • Moment of inertia of a uniform cylinder about its geometric axis is same as that of a solid disc of  same mass and radius.

If M=mass ,R=radius,

I_{solid\ cylinder}=\frac{MR^2}{2}

  • While in case of hollow cylinder

Moment of inertia of a hollow cylinder about its geometric axis is same as that of a ring of same mass M  and radius R.

I_{hollow\ cylinder}=MR^2
