Answer – Monoclonal antibodies are so named because they are derived from only one specific type of cell which is called a hybridoma cell.

These hybridoma cells are created by fusing tumour cells with mammalian cells which have their own individual characteristics.

While the former has the ability to replicate itself endlessly, the latter produces a certain antibody.

The end result of this fusion is hybridoma which has the ability to produce antibodies indefinitely.
