Question: Moon is a luminous object. True or false?

Answer: False

Moon is not a luminous object, rather it is a non luminous object.

What are luminous objects?

Luminous objects are the objects which emit their own light energy. They cause the sensation of light, therefore they are seen on their own. Example: Sun, stars, candle, etc.

What are non luminous objects?

Non luminous objects are those objects who don't emit their own light energy. They don't cause the sensation of light and are seen due to luminous objects. Examples: Moon, planets, chair, etc.

If moon is a non luminous object, then how are we able to see it?

We know that moon is a non luminous object, therefore it doesn't emit its own light energy. But still we are able to see the moon during the night. This is because the moon reflects the light of the sun (sun is a luminous object) falling on its surface towards the earth. When this reflected light reaches our eyes, we are able to see the moon.
