The thief’s story tells about the innocent young man and a thief. Anil was a writer who "writes for magazines and earns his living". Hari was a thief and he knows how to make an unknown person as his friends. Hari and Anil become friends and they stayed together. Anil taught Hari how to read and write. He also taught him how to cook.
Hari buys groceries and does daily work. During that time he took one rupee daily for himself while buying groceries. One day he saw Anil has kept a bunch of money under the mattress. Hari’s evil spirit awakened and one night he took the money and left the house. He was sitting at the railway station when the good spirit awakened and he did not run to catch the train.
He thought about how friendly Anil taught him things. He came home in rain and kept the money under the mattress. In the morning Anil gave Hari a 50 rupee note and said he will be paid monthly for his work. Still, the notes are wet and Hari came to know that Anil knew what happened last night. The moral of the story is that even a thief can be changed into a new man with faith and love.
