Answer:

Dialogue between a counselor and a stressed young person:

Young person: Good Morning Counsellor! May I come in?

Counsellor: Please come in. Have a seat.

Counsellor: Yes, what is your name? And how old are you?

Young person: My name is YP. And I am around 19 years old.

Counsellor: So, YP what do you do?

Young person: I have just completed college. And right now I haven’t doing anything much.

Counsellor: Why? Haven’t you thought of a job or studying further?

Young person: No Sir. Off late I haven’t been feeling like doing anything. I don’t know why. But it looks like I have lost the interest to do anything at all.

Counsellor: And why do you feel that way?

Young person: I do not know. All I know I have been feeling very depressed and just do not feel like doing anything, or talking to anybody, in fact nothing at all.

Counsellor: For how long have you been feeling like this?

Young person: It’s been nearly two months. I am unable to understand why this is happening and it got me so worried that I had decided to visit you. I really want to come out of this problem.

Counsellor: You see YP, there are times in life when we feel like things would never get better and that our feelings of depression would never end. If we start to feel depressed, our immediate step must be to focus our energy and time on ourselves. Taking care of ourselves emotionally, physically, spiritually, creatively would help turn those negative feelings and thoughts into more positive ones.

Young person: So, what must I do to overcome my depression?

Counsellor: I will list out a few things which I would suggest you follow sincerely. For instance, exercise regularly and eat healthy foods, get ample amount of sleep, do not keep yourself idle instead do some creative activity as a way to express you emotion or as a distraction, do not isolate yourself and try be as much as possible around people, meditate to relax and refocus your thoughts, and you also want to watch a movie or listen to music which makes you happy.

Young person: Sure, Counsellor. I shall try doing some of these, if it would greatly help. Thank you so much!

Counsellor: I am sure it would help. All the best!
