Answer:

Global warming is a long-term rise in the average temperature of the Earth's climate system, an aspect of climate change shown by temperature measurements and by multiple effects of the warming.[2][3] Though earlier geological periods also experienced episodes of warming,[4] the term commonly refers to the observed and continuing increase in average air and ocean temperatures since 1900 caused mainly by emissions of greenhouse gases in the modern industrial economy.[5] In the modern context the terms global warming and climate change are commonly used interchangeably,[6] but climate change includes both global warming and its effects, such as changes to precipitation and impacts that differ by region.[7][8] Many of the observed changes in climate since the 1950s are unprecedented in the instrumental temperature record, and in historical and paleoclimate proxy records of climate change over thousands to millions of years.[9]

Answer:

Respected Principal, teachers and my fellow students. A very good morning to all of you. Today I am going to speak on Global Warming which is not only making life difficult but also threatening the existence of life on Earth.

Global warming is the phenomenon of the increase in the temperature of the atmosphere due to the presence of excessive greenhouse gases emitted mostly by the burning of fossil fuels.

Global warming will results in the melting of the polar ice caps and raise the ocean level which will submerge islands and coastal lands. Island nations which will be submerged first by the rising sea level are the Maldives, Solomon Islands, Samoa, Fiji Islands, etc.

Global warming would cause unpredictable rainfall. It will cause scarcity of drinking water. Due to shortage water for irrigation, cultivation will fail and lead to worldwide food scarcity.

The catastrophic consequences of Global Warming can be mitigated by preserving the natural ecological system, shifting to sustainable development, and using more environmentally friendly energy.

Planting more trees will reduce the amount of harmful carbon dioxide gas in the atmosphere and reduce global warming. We need to shift to alternative energy instead of burning fossil fuels like coal and petroleum products.

Industrial waste must be treated properly before they are dumped. Using renewable energy like hydroelectricity and solar energy will help us to reduce global warming. Urgent steps must be taken to reduce exhaust emissions from motor vehicles, power plants, factories, and industries. Global warming needs urgent global actions for the survival of life on earth, our home planet.

Thank you.
