Climatical conditions can play a role like the other quorans suggested. , humidity is higher, no direct sunlight etc.

But i think the most important one is: humans, and other hosts (often birds or other mammals) are at rest and more easy targets!By sitting still or even sleeping we are less likely to see or feel the insects. We are often resting and thus sitting still makes tracking by scent more easy. The resting makes the host less likely to notice and react to mosquitoes and on top of that, Mammals and birds rely a lot on sight, in the dark the mosquitoes are very difficult to observe. (note that we only have proper widespread lighting for about a 100 years so mosquitoes haven’t much adapted to this. )

Yes mosquitoes can bite us in the dark. They don't have to see you to find you and then bite you. 2. When you exhale carbon dioxide they can sense some warm-blooded creature is there.
