Mosquitos can be controlled by preventing stagnation of water though they don't live in water because mosquitos lay their eggs in stagnated water, they get most nutrients after hatching from water and then theyspread diseases like dengue , malaria , chikungunya etc.

hope it helps you

Mosquitoes can be controlled by preventing the stagnation of water because, stagnant water is the most suitable place of mosquitoes to lay eggs.
