This is because the rivers in north arise from Himalayan glaciers which are a permanent source of water.

Whereas there is no such source in the south .

Joining of the river system may lead to problems of floodings and disturbance in monsoon patterns.

Explanation:

  • Due to the presence of the Himalayan mountains, the northern plains have water throughout the year as they are snow-fed as compared to those of southern India that have rainfed river systems of east and west system.
  • The joining of these northern and southern rivers systems in India is still under process as interlinking the rover involves huge amounts of costs, infrastructure, and deforestation of large tracts of land.
  • This method can result in disturbing the monsoon cycles and may even lead to flooding hence rethinking on this policy is need to make sure that it does not lead to other problems.
