westrn indian penisular plateau is slightly higher than eastern part of plateau, rivers originates in the plateau flow towards bay of bengal because of this very fact, also western ghats forms a wall like defence structure to the subcontinent and check the way for rivers to fall into arabian sea. only narmada and tapi rivers falls into arabian sea because they origrnates frm highlands of satpura and vindhaya and flow towards low lands of western ghats

Actually most rivers are offered better terrain to flow into the Bay of Bengal than the Arabian sea. The continuous stretch of the Western ghats forbid the free flow of rivers into the Arabian sea, the eastern ghats on the other hand are not that continuous in nature hence providing better relief fetures for rivers to flow. Hence there are more rivers flowing eastwards.
