1) Cell is the basic structural and functional unit of our life.

2) Robert Hooke discovered cell. He observed the cork at the microscope and saw some pores.

3) The cells are called as structural and functional units of a living body because the cells are structural unit as they form the structure of the organism. Cell is the functional unit of life because all the functions of body (physiological, biochemical. genetic and other functions) are carried out by cells.
