area under a curve is given by the integration of that function

Required area
= \int\limits^1_0 { x^{2} } \, dx

= \frac{ x^{3} }{3}  \left \{ {{1} \atop {0}} \right.

= \frac{ 1^{3} }{3} -0

= \frac{1}{3}
