Montaniers carry oxygen in cylinder when they climb mountains that are more than 500m high because as we go up the atmospheric pressure decreases.Less oxygen is supplied to the mountainers.Thats why they carry oxygen cylinders.

due to gravity,most of the air molecules are at the bottom which decreases the density of the air on higher altitude. if their is less density then the level of oxygen is also less. thus to prevent suffocation, mountaineer carry oxygen in cylinder
