sodium and potassium are stored in petroleum because,the act vigorously when they come in contact with water and water.
therefore keeping them in kerosene makes them safe.

Sodium and potassium are highly reactive . So they are kept immersed in kerosene oil to prevent their reaction with oxygen , moisture and carbon dioxide of air to prevent accidental fires .
