Morocco :

If Hercules and Lichas play at dice

Which is the better man, the greater throw

May turn by fortune from the weaker hand :

So is Alcides beaten by his page ;

And so may I, blind fortune leading me,

Miss that which one unworthier may attain,

And die with grieving.

(i) When are these lines spoken by Morocco? What has Portia assured him earlier? (3)

(ii) Who are Hercules and Lichas? Why does Morocco refer to Hercules and Lichas? (3)

(iii) What is Morocco’s fear? What does he decide to do? (2)

Answer:

i) this line a spoken by Morocco when he got to know that he has to go through a competition of casket and and for sure as yours him that if he loses then he has to leave the palace at that moment

ii) according to Greek mythology Hercules is a very strong powerful and tall person whom no one can defeat. leeches is Hercules servant

Morocco refers such speech because he know that competition or or this type of things I like a chance so if Hercules never place with leeches in a game of dice if leeches hurt given a greater number in the dice he would be proved stronger so if circle any one who is less word the other than Morocco would come he could win portia English word there then Morocco

iii) Morocco sphere is that as it was a competition of chance so he can lose so he has to lose portia forever and also to Louvre he is chance of marriage with anyone

iv)
