Kulas says "I have 10 farm animals consisting of goats and ducks. There are 26 animal legs. How many of each kind are there?"

Goats have 4 feet and ducks have 2 .

So we know

g+d=10 ←number of animals

and

4g+2d=26 ← number of feets

So we can form the first equation to d=10−g and plug it into the second

4g+2(10−g)=26∣2(10)=20,4g+2(−g)=4g−2g=2g

2g+20=26∣−20

2g=6∣÷2

g=3

There are 3 goats and 7 ducks.
