Let the total money be x.

Therefore , Mr. Mukherjee gave 5/14 of money to his son = 5/14 of x = 5x/14

Mr. Mukherjee gave 2/3 of remaining to his daughter.

So, remaining money = x - 5x/14
=( 14x - 5x )/14
= 9x/14

He gave 2/3 of remaining I.e.

2/3 of 9x/14
= 2/3 × 9x/14
=3x/7

According To Question , when we form equation it is -

x - (5x/14 + 3x/7) = 36000

or, x - {(5x + 6x )/14} = 36000

or, x - 11x/14 = 36000

or, (14x - 11x)/14 = 36000

or, 3x / 14 = 36000

or, 3x = 36000 × 14

or , x = (36000×14)/3

or, x = 12000×14

or, x = 168000

So, he gave 5/14 of it to his son I.e.

5/14 of 168000
= 5/14 × 168000
= 60000

He gave 2/3 of remaining to his daughter -

remaining = 168000-60000
= 108000

2/3 of 108000 = 2/3 × 108000
= 72000

Her wife got 36000

Sum -

60000+72000+36000 = ₹168000

Hence , verified also.

Answer: Rs. 168000

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the total amount be

Fraction of amount given to Son = 5/14

So, remaining fraction of amount = − 5/14 = 9/14

From this remaining amount, fraction given to daughter = 2/3 (9/14 )

So, fraction of amount received by his wife = 9/14 − 2/3 (9/14 )

= (9/14 ) (1 − 2/3)

= (9/14 ) (1/3)

= (3/14 )

Now, amount received by wife = 36000

∴ (3/14 ) = 36000  ⇒ = (36000 × 14) / 3 = 12000×14 = 1,68,000

Hence, total amount with Mr. Mukherjee is Rs 1,68,000.
