HEY Buddy.....!! here is ur answer
Let, the present age of Mrs. Lata = x years
and her son = y years
Given that : Their total is 64
According to the question : x + y = 64.....(1)
8 years ago : the age of Mrs. Lata = (x–8) years
and the age of her son = (y–8) years
Given that : Mrs. Lata 3 times as old as her son
then, according to the question :
(x–8) = 3(y–8)
=> x–3y = –24+8
=> x–3y = –16....(2)
On solving equation (1) and (2) by elimination method...
x+y = 64...(1)
x–3y = –16....(2)
_____________
On subtracting...
4y = 80 => y = 20 years
On putting the value of 'y' in equation (1)
x+20 = 64
=> x = 44 years
Therefore, the present age of Mrs. Lata is 44 years and her son is 20 years.
I hope it will be helpful for you....!!
