Following are the three reason which might be cause of holes in the silk saree;

1. There were rats in the place she stores.
2. A cloth eating insect (cloth eater) might have caused holes in the saree.
3. Use od cheap washing powder and prolonged exposure to the atmosphere, not properly covered.

Remedies to save the cloth are:

1. Spray the area with anti rats and cloth eater to kill them.
2. Cover the cloth in newspaper and then in another layer of some other cloth.
3. Preserve the cloth in a plastic covering in a bag.
