After his death in 1756 the Mughal Empire decayed and disintegrated. All hopes of revival of Mughal Empire shattered when the British decided to challenge their authority in the 19th century. Bahadur Shah Zafar the last Mughal Emperor lead the rebels in the Great Revolt Of 1857 but was defeated and exiled to Rangoon.
