Muhammad Bin Tughlaq introduced artistic and different kinds of coins throughout his reign and set up their corresponding rates. The striking characteristic of the coinage policy was the foundation of token currency and the distribution of copper and brass money. The Sultan executed these token currency authorised tenders and kept their value at standard with gold and silver coins. He organised mints in centres like Delhi, Salgaun, Lakhnauti, Sultanpur, Darul-I-Islam, Daulatabad and Tughluqpur etc. He started the coins without practicing any precaution against fraud. The market was swamped with fraudulent currency. In this condition, Sultan eliminates all the copper money, which created a large failure to the royal exchequer. This system of the Sultan also flopped badly.
