As far as my knowledge is concerned, Mushroom cultivation was commercialized in 1977 in Solan. Later in 1985, Mushroom Development project was introduced in Palampur. The project was officially launched as Pilot project and was aimed at introducing the Dutch Technology that could be used for cultivation of Mushroom.
The important point to keep in mind regarding this project is that the project was made operational only by the late 1992. After this the government had declared the Solan district as State’s Mushroom district.
This was also the only district which was selected by the government for growing and cultivating Mushroom for commercial purpose and on large scale.
