let ABCD be a rectangle

draw a rectangle pqrs by leaving 1 metre from all sides

now

by the given condition

length of pqrs=(12-1)×2=22metres

and breadth=(10-1)×2=18metres

so length of garden ABCD=22+1+1

=24metres

and breadth=18+1+1=20metres

so answer given in book is correct
