I have a similar experience with Dealing with a younger brother whom did not respect me. I realized it was just the way that I had made myself available. I was picked on in school and all the way through adulthood. It took me a lot of trail and error to remealize the golden rule never actually seemed to work for me. Treat others as you want to be treated. I used to live solely by this and realized I ended up always being the one who ended up hurt in many different situations.
