"My dear Miss Fairchild," said Easton, calmly, "I had to do something.Money has a way of taking wings unto itself, and you know it takes moneyto keep step with our crowd in Washington. I saw this opening in the West,and-well, a marshalship isn't quite as high a position as that of ambassador,

Q1) Where does this conversation take place?
Answers
Answer:
This conversation takes place in a coach of the B&M express which was headed towards Denver.
Mr Easton is a convict for counterfeit and is being taken to the Leavenworth prison by a gruff looking policeman. The only vacant seat available is opposite of a well dressed young woman - Miss Fairchild. This conversation occurs between Miss Fairchild and Mr Easton after Miss Fairchild realises that the man opposite her is an old acquaintance and she instigates a conversation. The kind but gruff-looking policeman understands the shame Mr Easton would experience if the truth was out and convinces Miss Fairchild that Mr Easton was a Marshall taking him to the prison, when in reality the roles were reversed. Mr Easton is now going along with the tale and telling Miss Fairchild why he took the job of a dashing Marshall of the West.
