DURING LOCKDOWN
Modi Ji had announced all-India lockdown till mid-April. I couldn't believe it. I guess the Mehtas will no longer have that exclusive invite-only salon they were planning in early April. I even had my outfit planned out. Made aloo and beans sabzi. Discovered a packet of curry mix someone had brought back from a trip to Malaysia. We were going to have Penang paneer curry for dinner that night. A delivery man showed up today. Have never been so excited to see a delivery person before. He did not have half the things I’d ordered but never mind, it was exciting to just see him there.
Doordarshan has been able to bring the golden era back for us to enjoy this lockdown. With all our favorite shows back on television, families are spending more time together, reliving those good old days. I had watched mythologies such as Devlok with Devdutt Pattanaik earlier besides other versions of Ramayana and Mahabharat as a child, but there is something about this show that caught my interest. As far as lessons from Ramayana go, it is an opportunity to better understand how the epic has been portrayed and understood in contemporary times. Watching these shows also provides a chance to link current issues with what was happening in the past. We never imagined that we would have to be stuck inside for so long. However, this time has also given us the opportunity to rekindle the relationship we lost with our family. With the fast-paced lives, we were living, we hardly sat together as a family. The lockdown has given us a chance to go back to the days when the family time was the most important time of the day.
