(First let us understand what ‘pen down’ means here. When you write something, it is referred to as something that you have ‘penned down’. So, the essay needs to be written on your favourite article, poem, story or write-up that you have written during the lockdown.)
All through the lockdown, we had online classes and had many written assignments. One such assignment was to maintain a diary for three days, analyse it and present it in the form of an essay. I quite enjoyed the task, because it was simple and did not require too much effort. It was much later that I discovered that the essay had given me an insight into my own self and had changed my attitude towards life altogether.
My favourite write-up is titled ‘Through my diary’ and is about me, my thoughts, feelings and emotions. So, it was not difficult getting the content. I did not have to think or get creative. The material was right there. I completed the essay and submitted it on time and forgot all about it. It was a week later, when the teacher was grading our assignments that she read my essay in class. That was when I realised the importance of what I had written.
The analysis based on the diary entries was a very pleasing one. I had factually mentioned how my grandmother would wake me up each morning, my mother would prepare delicious food, my father would sit and listen to the songs I enjoy, like those by Alan Walker and how the evenings were spent playing family games like ludo and jenga. All these little joys of life made me realise how privileged I am. Even in these difficult times, we sailed through smoothly just because each one of us tried to make life comfortable for the rest.
I have pasted the essay on the wall, and each day I find someone or the other standing in my room, reading it and smiling. The essay is a reminder of how a family can unite to fight any challenges. The lockdown gave us family time together and the essay taught me to value it.
