 \large \tt AHOY!! \:

given the perimeter of the right angle triangle = 40cm

hypotenuse = 17cm

therefore length of the other two sides = 40 - 17

= 23cm

let the two other sides by a and b.

by Pythagoras theorem we get,

=> 17² = a² + b²

=> 289 = (a + b)² - 2ab (by identity :- a² + b² = (a + b)² - 2ab)

=> 289 = (23)² - 2ab

=> 289 = 529 - 2ab

=> 289 - 529 = -2ab

=> -240 = -2ab

=> 240 = 2ab

=> 240/2 = ab

=> 120cm = ab

since the hypotenuse of the right angle triangle is given, i.ethe other two sides must be the base and perpendicular of the right angle triangle.

therefore area of the triangle = 1/2 × b × h

= 1/2 × ab

= 1/2 × 120

= 60cm²
