According to the Clean Air Council, Americans, consume 20,000 plastic grocery-store bags every five seconds; which totals roughly one-hundred billion bags being used annually. This usage contributes to more than half-million tons of plastics being discarded into our nation’s landfills annually. Since plastic grocery store bags decompose by exposure to radiation from the sun’s ultra violet light and are not biodegradable, plastic bags are estimated to remain in our landfills for up to 1000 years, as stated by many plastic experts and scientists. If the experts are correct the sheer volume of plastic bags, over this time span, would overwhelm our current system of waste disposal. However, not all discarded plastic bags reach landfills; many are left circulating the oceans around the world or blowing with the wind in our national parks or stuck in the white picket fence surrounding our houses; causing great ecological damage to our wildlife. Consumers should no longer have the option of choosing plastic bags over the more earth friendly alternatives such as reusable, biodegradable bags. Many champions for the continued use of plastic bags, at checkout counters around the country, often tout the low cost and availability of plastic bags, and that banning them in favor of reusable bags would increase prices for consumers. While this argument is narrowly focused; it does, however, have some merit. Plastic bags are purchased in bulk by merchandisers for roughly two cents each.hope helpful,.............................................!!!!!we are the students of brainly.in..........................jai hothank you readers

Essay on My life as a plastic:

Here's an essay on My life as a plastic.

I was separated from the rest of my petroleum family when we all went to the refinery together. After that I was combined with some other compounds and my new life began as a single use plastic. First I was made carrying bag, I was taken by the fruit vendor and he used me to wrap up the fruits. I have hoped that the person who took me to his home along with the fruits would use me for different purposes, but all of my hopes went vain when they threw me to the dustbin. From there I was taken to the municipality dumping site from where some people carried me and thousands of other plastics like me and put me somewhere else. I don't know how I ended up on the drain, but I was there for some time until the rains arrived and then die to the flow of water, I was seeped to the river. From river, I continued in my journey to the ocean along with thousands of other plastic waste. In ocean I was eaten by a fish, and because of me the fish's digestive system got blocked and she died. A seagull took the carcass of the fish and took it to the land to eat it. But a man stole the dead fish from the bird, and took me to the fish market. Someone brought the fish and took me to their home, when they cut the fish, I was there lying on their table, back to their plates.

Moral of the story :- Recycling plastic is every important, or else it will end up somehow on your dining table.
