My limbs were now brittle and bare,
Mv roots were now shrunken and shrivelled
No more for me the joyous twitter of birds,
No more did I harbour, and shelter, protect

b)the poet wants to express that his life is no more longer and the part of his life that is left with him does not show the strength it posses but acts as if it's brittle
