n^2 - tn +1/4 is perfect square of
( n - 1/2)^2
so value of t = 1

for a quadratic equation to be perfect square,it should have identical roots or solutions.
for identical roots determinant of quadratic equation must be zero

d= {b}^{2}  - 4ac
for quadratic equation
a {x}^{2}  + bx + c
as per the question,

d=0;
b​2​​−4ac=0
 {t}^{2}  - 1 = 0
solving we get
t=1 or -1
