N2- means that this is a nitrogen di-anion and the atom has gained two electrons.
Now, we know that the atomic number of N - Nitrogen is 7.
So,the no.of protons is equal to 7.
Also, since first the atom is electrically neutral thus the number of electrons are also 7. But now the atom has gained two more electrons so the number of electrons is 7+2=9.
Now the mass number of nitrogen is 14.
And the mass number of an atom is the number of protons+no.of neutrons.
No.of neutrons +7=14
No.of neutrons = 7
No .of protons = 7
& No.of electrons = 9
