Cells come in different shapes depending on what they are, such as:

(a) a red blood cell, it resembles a doughnut with a centre depression on each side. Certain white blood cells, called neutrophils and macrophages, can change shape to enable them to engulf microbes that invade the body.

(b) On the other hand , nerve cells has a typical fixed shape, range in length from less than 1mm to long enough to span the distance from just above your waist to your toes.

\textbf{ Cells which have changing shape }

\textbf{1. Amoeba}

Amoeba is a unicellular, irregular shaped organism. They have false feet known as \textbf{Pseudopodia} .By the help of pseudopodia they can change their shape. They changed their shape for adaptation. Amoeba captures food and move with the help of pseudopodia. During cold days, they wrap their body (i.e; cell) into a like structure.

\textbf{2. White Blood Cells (WBCs)}

The white blood cells or \textbf{Leucocyte} are immune cells present in blood. They also can change their shape. They change their shape to engulf pathogens to kill them. Some WBCs are phagocytic cells. These cells kill and digest germ such process is known as \textbf{Phagocytosis}. Monocytes and Neutrophils performs phagocytosis.

\textbf{Cells which have typical shape}

\textbf{1. Nerve Cells}

Nerve cells possess typical shape. \textbf{Neurons} are known as nerve cells. Neurons contain three parts Dendrites, Axon and Axon Terminals. All these parts are arranged in fixed manner to perform a specific function. That is why nerve cell have typical shape. Neurons are also known as functional and structural unit of nervous system.

\textbf{2. Red Blood Cells}

Mature RBC or \textbf{Erythrocytes} also have typical shape. They are disc shaped, biconcave and uninucleated. Their diameter is about 7-8 microns. They contains red coloured respiratory pigments known as \textbf{Haemoglobin} . RBCs mainly helps in transport of respiratory gases.
