Hey there!
Figure of Speech is a word or phrase that has meaning other than the literal meaning.
1. Simile : It's a figure of speech that compares one word with the another thing of a differnt kind, often to make descriptions emphatic or vivid
The words 'like' or 'as' often indicates simile
For e.g : Brave as Lion
Big as Elephant
2. Metaphor : Many of us misconcept Simile as Metaphor. Although they both have familiar definitions, they two aren't same
Metaphor is a figure of speech where it describes two things as similar by stating how they resembles each other!
What make it differentiates between Simile, of talking simply is that, 'Metaphor is comparing things without using 'as' or 'like'
It uses words such as 'were' 'are' 'was' etc.
e.g : The road was a ribbon wrapped through the desert.
3. Hyperbole : Here, exaggeration is used for emphasis or effect. What should it be called short? Extreme Exaggeration!
e.g: I've told you a thousand times!
4. Pun : It is a figure of speech which consists of similar words which often make it confusing and funny whether be it serious or funny for the rheotical effect
e.g: I wonder why the basketball was getting bigger. then it hit me.
