Dear Student,

◆ Valency -

  • Valency is the combining capacity of an element.
  • When single element can combine with other element/elements in different proportions, it is said to have variable valency.

Following elements have variable valencies -

  1. Copper shows valency of +1 and +2.
  2. Iron shows valency of +2 as well as +3.
  3. Cobalt also shows valency of +2 and +3.
  4. Manganese shows valencies +2, +3, +4, +6 and +7.
  5. Silver shows valency of +1 and +2.
  6. Mercury also shows valency of +1 and +2.

Thanks dear. Hope this helps you...
