One enzyme present in our intestine is peptidase.

The function of peptidase is to breakdown peptide bonds in proteins to form amino acids. It cleaves the peptide bonds between two amino acids with the help of hydrolysis.

  • Peptidase( or protease/proteinase) is an integral membrane protein present in the small intestine. It is produced and secreted here itself.
  • The small intestine also has other proteolytic enzymes such as trypsin and chymotrypsin secreted by the pancreas.
  • Therefore, all together they take part in protein digestion.
  • Also, it contains maltase that helps in the break down of carbohydrates and thereby aids carbohydrate digestion.

Question-

Name any one enzyme present in our small intestine and write its function.

AnsweR:-

Enzyme present in our small intestine is

Maltase

Pepsin

Function of Maltase and Pepsin:

☆Maltase >

Maltase, enzyme that catalyzes the hydrolysis of the disaccharide maltose to the simple sugar glucose.During digestion, starch is partially transformed into maltose by the pancreatic or salivary enzymes called amylases; maltase secreted by the intestine then converts maltose into glucose.

☆Pepsin >

Pepsin is a stomach enzyme that serves to digest proteins found in ingested food. Gastric chief cells secrete pepsin as an inactive zymogen called pepsinogen.

Hope its helpful for u......!!
