Name any three elements of phloem with their functions
Answers
● Different types of elements present in phloem are sieve tubes, companion cells, phloem fibres and phloem parenchyma namely.
● Sieve tubes play a major role in the transportation of Sugars and Minerals in plants.
● Companion cells are the cells which are present along with receive elements and also adjust or regulate the functions of the elements.
● Phloem fibres are the components of phloem which give support to the stem.
● Phloem parenchyma cells are the cells which help in the transport of food materials in plants.
Phloem's any three elements along with functions are :
1. Sieve tube
Their function is to conduct food elements in the plants. The food that is synthesised are translocated by the sieve tubes.
2. Companion cells
This element of phloem has the function to maintain pressure gradient in other element called sieve tubes.
3. Phloem parenchyma
They have the main role to store the synthesised food. Apart from this, they also store tannins, latex, resins, mucilage, etc.
