Gulbarga was also called Kalburgi. It became part of Karnataka after indenpendence when the states were reorganized. The Rastrakutas controlled this area for a short period, after them chalukyas retained their control for more than two hundred years. Kalahari's succeeded and Chalukyas were in control of this area till 12th century.
