(i) Hand picking : Some of the components of solid-solid mixture can be separated by picking them with hands.
Examples - Separating pebbles from rice.
(ii) Threshing : This process is commonly used by the farmers to separate the grains from its stalk after harvesting. The dried stalk are beaten or thrashed to separate grains.
In large farms threshing is done by using threshing machines.
Harvesting : The process of cutting and gathering the ripened crop is called threshing.
(iii) Winnowing : The mixture is allowed to fall from a height. The lighter components gets separated from the heavier ones because of wind.
(iv) Sublimation : The process in which a solid changes directly into gaseous state on heating is called sublimation.
