Historical processes which have resulted in the evolution of Democracy are:

a. The age of Revolutions: The French revolution, the glorious revolution, the adoption of bill of rights by the US constitution certainly laid the foundation of democracy in the World. These events popularised the ideas of liberty, equality , government based on consent, these events challenged absolute powers of the monarch etc.
b. Women suffrage movements- Throughout the 19th century we saw rise of feminist movements demanding political rights and full citizenship status.

One key reason that led to democracy taking form in many parts of the world is the upsurge of various revolutions. These revolutions arose in order to demand equality and liberty, while asking for a government that operated on people’s consent. All this triggered the downfall of monarchy where only one person had full control over the nation.

The other factor that led to the establishment of democracy is to give women equal rights as their male counterparts. Many feminist movements started springing up demanding full citizenship status and equal political rights for women.
