One traditional system of water harvesting is jhalaras. These are rectangular stepwells with steps on 3-4 sides. they collect seepage water from a lake or reservoir, and gives easy access of water to the community.
Another traditional system is talabs that may be natural or manmade. They are often used to store water for household purpose, and only a few members are allowed to take water from them.
Some families even had personal talabs which only they could access.
