Agra: The Taj Trapezium Zone (TTZ) authority on Wednesday directed thepollution control board to lodge FIR against petha manufactures and owners of electroplating
units for causing pollution.
The TTZ authority also banned the use of plastic in Agra, Mathura and Firozabad and all other adjoining areas which fall under its jurisdiction.
Divisional commissioner Pradeep Bhatnagar said, “Despite a complete ban on use of coal in petha units and a directions to shift them to the outskirts of the city, several units are still operating from Noori Darwaza. Now directions have been passed to lodge FIRs against their owners as a deterrent.”
A similar punitive action has been suggested against owners of electroplating units for polluting Yamuna river. “There are 70 such units operating in the city. Many of them do not treat the heavy metal discharge and dump it into the river. They will be booked under relevant sections of the Pollution Control Act,” the official added.
Bhatnagar also asked the civic agencies to implement the ban on use of plastic in entire TTZ as polythene chokes the drains as well as causes health hazards. It has been a major cause of flooding of roads during monsoon. The Agra Municipal Corporation (AMC) was asked to conduct raids in the city to nab the offenders selling or using plastics.
