During the freedom movement there were many writers who wrote novels which inspired patriotism. Rabindranath Tagore wrote 'Gora'. Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay wrote 'Anandamath'. It is the story of a Sannyasi army fighting against the British soldiers. The novel tries to arouse Hindu nationalism to fight and end the British rule. The novel is the source of the Vande Mataram song which is the National Song of India.
