Jahangir's wife, Jagat Gosaini, a Rajput princess, was actually Shah Jahan's mother. To honour his new beautiful and faithful wife, Jahangirgave her the title of 'Nur Mahal' ("Light of the Palace") upon their marriage in 1611 and 'Nur Jahan' ("Light of the World") five years later in 1616.
