A seed which has two cotyledons is called a dicot seed.
The seed coat of the seed has characteristic colours.
When the seeds are left to soak in water we can easily spot the cotyledon leaves of the seed.
The different parts of a dicot seed consists of
1. plumule (grows as the shoot)
2.radicle (becomes the root)
3.epicotyl (the stem of the embryo just above the attachment juncture of the cotyledon), and
4. hypocotyl (area between the radical and the origin of cotyledons).
