DEAR STUDENT

the chemical i would use to distinguish experimentally between an alcohol and a carboxylic acid is carbonates or hydrogen carbonates

we know that carboxylic acids react with carbonates to give salt + water + carbon dioxide

FOR EXAMPLE

reaction of Methanoic Acid Reaction with a Carbonate

2HCOOH(aq) + Na2CO3(s) → 2HCOONa(aq) +H2O(l) + CO2(g)

Methanoic acid + sodium carbonate → sodium formate + water + carbon dioxide

here alcohol does not react with carbonates...........hence differenciated

hope it helped..........pls do mark it as BRAINLIEST
