Glycolysis is the common phase of respiration in both aerobic as well as anaerobic respiration.  The process of glycolysis takes place in cytoplasm.

EXPLANATION:

Glycolysis is the process of conversion of glucose into pyruvate. This process leads to the release of energy.  And this energy is used to create high level of energy like ATP.

The glucose is break down into 3 carbon substance. Glycolysis occurs in higher level organism and not in low level organisms. Anaerobic glycolysis occurs at fast rate than the aerobic glycolysis.
