\underline\bold{\huge{Answer!!}}

The compounds formed by the reaction between the metal and a non metal are IONIC COMPOUNDS.

\underline\bold{\LARGE{Explanation:-}}

Actually what happens

\underline\bold{\large{Metal}}have extra electrons in their valence shell whose number can be 1 , 2 or 3.
So metal always tends to donate their valance electrons to become electropositive (cation) so that it get electronic configuration of nearby enert element.

\underline\bold{\large{Nonmetal}}have 5 , 6 or 7 electrons in their outermost shell i.e valance shell. So to complete octet it always tends to gain electron to become electronegative (Anion).

So when metal reacts with
non-metal ,Metal donates their valance electrons to the Non-metal. Due to this both the elements get the electronic configuration of their nearby enert element. And they combine with strong bond due to transfer of electrons , this Bond is known as ionic bond.
And The compounds formed by ionic bond are called \bold{\large{Ionic\:compounds}}
