There are many types of volcanoes present. When Magma erupts at the surface it can form different types of volcanoes depending on the viscosity, or stickiness, of the Magma, and the way in which the Magma reaches the surfaces.

Types of volcanoes:

• Cinder cones (e.g. there are nearly100 cinder cones on the flanks of Mauna Kea.
• Shield volcanoes (e.g. they are located on the island of Hawaii.
• Composite volcanoes (e.g. Mt Fuji)
• Lava domes (Mt Merapi, Novarupta in Alaska etc.)
