on the basis of the extent of the movement there are 2 types of joints:-
A] movable joints: these joints can move and are further divided into four major types-
1) Hinge Joint; these joints can move up to almost 180 degree these are present in places like elbow
2) ball and socket joint; these can move about 360 degrees these are present in places like thighs
3) gliding joints; this glide over each other they are present in places like wrists.
4) pivot joint; this is a special type of joint present in the neck.
B] non movable joints- these are present in the places like skull which cannot move at all
on the basis of the structure joints are classified as:-
1) cartilages joints: in this type of joints the bones are held Together by cartilages and there is no Synovial cavity or fluid
2) Synovial Joint: this type of joints include of Synovial cavity and Synovial fluid secreted by the Synovial membrane. bones forming the joints are surrounded by articular capsule.
3) fibrous joints: the bones forming the joints are held Together by fibrous connective tissues there is no Synovial cavity or fluid
though synovial joints, cartilages joints, etc. are further classified but the classification are necessary at Higher levels only
